John Farrell has been in the construction business a long time. Thus, his company, John Farrell Construction LLC is as reputable and competent at building things as it gets.
The star high school nose guard went to Xavier High School, an all-boys college preparatory Catholic high school in Middletown, Connecticut. He passed on college scholarships as he thought at age 19, he could make more money continuing to build houses. Continuing because at age 14 he had already started framing houses while attending high school.
In fact, in Connecticut he learned how to hand frame roofs which he considers “a lost art” and what sets his work apart. Rather than buying trusses, he prefers to cut the rafters himself. He said using that method makes the interior of the ceilings more dynamic and creates more volume in the home. Generally speaking, if you plan on increasing the amount of room or storage space in your attic, rafters are the right choice. Quicker roof construction usually involves installing roof trusses.
Mr. Farrell is a certified building contractor with licenses in Florida, Montana and North Dakota.
His own New Smyrna Beach home he built himself at age 24. The home still looks modern today. He said “If a design can last for a long time, you’ve done a good job as a builder.”
Mr. Farrell’s expertise includes success at building restaurants and small shopping centers. He built Quincy’s (in New Smyrna Beach) and Hardee’s for years including at one point building and operating his own chain of 12 Hardee’s restaurants with 750 employees throughout Central Florida.
Although experienced in both commercial and residential builds, he focuses on large custom homes now, anywhere within 100 miles of New Smyrna Beach. He has his own employees and subcontracts out the plumbing, electrical, a/c work and keeping and finishing the sheet rock. His gamut of expertise includes new construction, remodeling, roofing, kitchens, bathrooms and more.
He said “I am efficient and Joe Hillard who works with me engineers my plans. One of my strong points in business is when I take on a job, I buckle down and I get it done. I don’t run around trying to get more jobs and leave the jobs I got lingering. I hammer my jobs out and try to please the customer in a timely manner.
“Since I’ve has my license since 1985, I always pull permits. It would be silly for me to run around doing jobs without permits. I (also) have insurance. A lot of customers get taken advantage of because 1) they have an unlicensed contractor, 2) the guy has no insurance. If you work with people that are professional and they draw blueprints and get them engineered, you are going to get a more quality project than somebody not hiding from the building department. I think it is important for consumers to use licensed contractors.”
The avid golfer is a family man with fiancée Nohemy and son Jonathan and daughter Rebecca along with adult children John, Isabella, and Brian.
